About Us

About Katsura Garden

Katsura Garden is a plant shop rooted in San Francisco's Japantown, located at 1825 Post Street, Suite 110. We specialize in indoor and outdoor plants — from everyday houseplants like Pothos and Snake Plants to statement pieces like Black Olive Trees and Braided Hibiscus. Our goal is straightforward: help people find plants that fit their space and lifestyle, and give them the information they need to keep those plants healthy.

How We Started

Katsura Garden was founded with a simple observation: buying plants online often meant choosing between limited local options or large retailers with little guidance. We wanted to create a middle ground — a shop that offers a well-curated selection of plants, provides honest growing information with every product, and stands behind what we ship.

The name "Katsura" reflects the kind of space we aim to cultivate: calm, green, and thoughtfully arranged.

What We Carry

Our inventory focuses on plants that perform well in indoor environments, with select varieties suited for outdoor growing in warmer climates. Current categories include:

  • Indoor Trees and Palms — Dracaena, Majesty Palm, Lady Palm, Black Olive Tree, and similar vertical statement plants
  • Flowering Plants — Orchids (Phalaenopsis), Anthurium, Gardenia, Hibiscus, and Bromeliad
  • Succulents and Low-Maintenance — Snake Plant, Ponytail Palm, and similar drought-tolerant varieties
  • Trailing and Hanging — Philodendron, Pothos, Hoya, and Calathea
  • Tropical and Specialty — Alocasia, Maranta, and other distinctive foliage plants

Each product listing includes detailed growing requirements — light, water, temperature, and pet safety information — so you can make an informed choice before purchasing.

How We Work

Every plant we sell is shipped from our San Francisco location in custom protective packaging designed to reduce transit stress. We use root-zone insulation and secure each plant to minimize movement during shipping. If an order includes both a plant and a planter, they may ship in separate packages.

We process orders Monday through Friday and aim to ship within 2 business days. During periods of extreme heat or cold, we may delay shipment by 1 to 2 days to protect plant health — we would rather have your plant arrive a day later in good condition than on time and stressed.

Our Approach to Quality

Plants are living organisms, and no two are identical. Size, leaf count, color, and growth pattern vary naturally from one plant to another and from the images shown on our website. We consider this normal and expect it — it is part of what makes each plant individual.

That said, we hold ourselves to a standard: every plant we ship should arrive healthy, well-rooted, and true to the general description on its product page. If something arrives damaged or significantly different from what was described, we will work with you to resolve it — whether that means a replacement or a refund.
